CURENT will soon host nearly 200 people in Knoxville for the center's 2014 Industry Conference & NSF/DOE Site Visit.

The event is two-fold. First, the Industry Conference is an opportunity for power-related companies to interact with CURENT faculty and students to see the research progress that the center has made over the past year. Collaboration with companies is critical for CURENT, as many ongoing projects tie directly into industry demands, which allows for a mutually-beneficial partnership.

Additionally, the Site Visit portion of the event brings program managers and a "Site Visit Team" from the National Science Foundation and the Department of Energy to review progress and offer suggestions on future research. The center was originally awarded $18.5 million for a five year project by NSF and DOE, and 2014 marks the center's funding-renewal year, making this visit especially important. During the review, NSF and DOE representatives will gauge the direction and focus of CURENT research, and will decide on whether or not funding renewal for an additional five years is recommended.

Affiliates of the center are invited to take part in the Industry Conference & NSF/DOE Site Visit. Event registration, lodging information, and an agenda are available here.

The 2014 Industry Conference & NSF/DOE Site Visit will take place on May 12-16 at the Holiday Inn World's Fair Park in downtown Knoxville and the Min H. Kao Building on the University of Tennessee campus. CURENT-Logo_Transparent-tiny.png
