CURENT’s Power Electronics Professors visit Oak Ridge National Laboratory

CURENT’s five power electronics professors (Drs. Kevin Bai, Daniel Costinett, Jiangbiao He, Leon Tolbert, and Fred Wang) visited ORNL’s National Transportation Research Center and GRID-C power research facilities on June 30 as a reciprocal visit (ORNL researchers had visited CURENT on April 2).  During the visit, ORNL researchers in the Vehicle and Mobility Systems Research Section, led by Dr. Burak Ozpineci, and in the Electrical System Integration section, led by Dr. Michael Starke, gave a series of presentations on their current research projects.  This was followed by tours of the research facilities where ORNL researchers work on electric vehicle motors, drives, thermal management, wireless and wired charging.  These meetings between ORNL researchers and CURENT faculty have been scheduled to aid in more collaboration between CURENT and ORNL on future research projects and hiring of CURENT graduates.  ORNL has hired more than a dozen CURENT graduates.
