Title:  Bracing for EV Adoption

Abstract: The US electric grid has continually evolved to accommodate new demands throughout the last century, but if the nations vehicles were to rapidly become electric, the grid would need to change faster. My talk will address how the reliance on EV’s for mobility could vary from place to place, the impact  advanced transportation will have on our infrastructure and to our society and the changes it will have to electric grid supercharging technologies both to public and private transportation.  Additionally, I will talk about the research  surrounding ethics and liabilities of autonomous cars (trolley effect) in society and how machine learning and AI can be built around it (Monte Carlo).   Additionally, I will briefly talk about digital transformations such as adaptive and smart sensors to allow for real time models of grid demand when mass adoptions of EVs occur.

Bio: Dr. Mukherjee is an expert in technical and policy issues surrounding Battery Energy Storage Systems, Microgrids, and Electric Charging infrastructure solutions (specifically wireless charging through magnetic resonance). Srijib has been involved in various real-world applications surrounding digital technology in the Energy Industry. This includes blockchain with peer to peer energy sharing, artificial intelligence/machine learning and big data management.  As a technical engineer he has over 26 year of experience in interconnected grid operations, distributed generation of power systems, microgrids, bulk power operations, energy portfolio management and energy trading & risk management. Dr. Mukherjee’s research interest is in the areas of autonomous vehicles, intermodal signals of autonomous vehicle and liability/risk surrounding autonomous vehicles.

Srijib Mukherjee is also an Adjunct Professor in Systems Engineering at UNC, Charlotte, teaching both graduate and undergraduate level classes. He has an MBA from Duke University, MSEE and Ph.D. from the University of Miami and is a Registered Professional Engineer in the States of California and North Carolina and a NERC Certified System Operator. He is an IEEE Senior Member, and an alternate board member of the IEEE CEAA.
