Dr. Shengyi Liu, Technical Fellow & Chief Architect of Platform Subsystems, Boeing Research & Technology

Shengyi Liu 144.jpgDr. Shengyi Liu is a Technical Fellow, Chief Architect of Platform Subsystems for Boeing Research & Technology. He is an internationally known expert in advanced power sources, power electronics converters, motor drives, and hybrid electric power systems. In the area of his expertise, he holds 64 US patents and 72 international patents. His scientific publications have been widely cited and used as technology development references in the area of power and energy systems and components. He was a recipient for 10 Boeing exceptional performance and achievement awards. He was elected to receive the Career Achievement Award by the Society of Asian Engineers and Scientists in 2017, and was awarded the Asian American Engineer of Year in 2018. Dr. Liu is an IEEE Fellow.

 

Dr. David A. Schoenwald, Principal Member Technical Staff, Sandia National Laboratories

David Schoenwald 144.jpgDavid Schoenwald is a Principal Member of the Technical Staff in the Electric Power Systems Research Department at Sandia National Laboratories.  Dr. Schoenwald focuses on control system design to improve dynamic stability of electric power systems. He also develops performance standards for grid-scale energy storage applications.  Before joining Sandia, he was with Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where he designed control systems for manufacturing applications.  He was also an adjunct assistant professor in the Electrical Engineering Department, University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he taught a graduate course on nonlinear control systems.  Dr. Schoenwald received an R&D 100 award in 2017 for development of an inter-area oscillation damping controller for the western North American power grid. He received the 2017 Outstanding Engineer Award of the Albuquerque Section of the IEEE.  He served as Technical Co-Chair of the 2017 Electrical Energy Storage Applications & Technologies (EESAT) Conference.  Dr. Schoenwald received his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from The Ohio State University 
 

Dr. Tao Xia, Consulting Engineer, Dominion Power

Tao Xia received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech in 2009. He is the founder of Integrated Power Engineering, Inc. (IPE) and is currently also a consulting engineer at Dominion Energy in Virginia. His professional career has covered a wide spectrum of technical activities, including electric network modeling, system simulations, equipment design and monitoring, asset health assessment, 3D electromagnetic simulations, synchrophasor technology development, protective relay designs, electric utility enterprise level artificial intelligence, grid visualization, data analytics, etc. Dr. Tao Xia is also a professional engineer licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia, an IEEE senior member and actively involved in CIGRE. 

 

Dr. Slava Maslennikov, Technical Manager, ISO New England

Slava Maslennikov 144.jpgSlava Maslennikov received M.S.(1979), Ph.D. (1984) and Dr. Sc. (1998) degrees all in Power Systems at St. Petersburg Technical University (former Politechnical Institute), St. Petersburg, Russia. His major interests are power system stability, resilience, security, operations, smart GRID, cascading analysis and corresponding software tools. He is currently a Technical Manager at the ISO New England, Holyoke, MA, USA.
