CURENT Research Opportunities


Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU)

The Center for Ultra-wide-area Resilient Electric Energy Transmission Networks (CURENT) is seeking motivated students interested in participating in an 8 week paid summer research program.  The main program is located on the University of Tennessee's campus where CURENT is headquartered.  There are limited positions available at the other campuses - Northeastern University (Boston, MA), Rensselaer Polytechnic (Troy, NY), and Tuskegee University (Tuskegee, AL).  

The program pays $520 per week and includes free housing and a travel reimbursement (up to $500 unless special circumstances apply).  The start date of the program is June 5th through July 28th.  Students are paired with graduate student and/or faculty mentors that guide the student through a project that is relevent to the center's current research and challenging to the student.  

The intent of the program is to give students a better idea of what graduate studies might be like and encourage them to look at the Power and Energy field as a potential career path.  For more information, please refer to the following links:

Graduate School Funding

CURENT has several opportunities currently available for students interested inadvanced research in power systems and power electronics.  

Many of the graduate research positions pay $30,000 per year and all positions include a tuition waiver and employee benefits.  Applications for domestic students can be accepted year round but for full consideration it is best to have all application documents submitted by February 1st.  For more information, please refer to the following links:
